Idea for November 2025: solopreneur

My idea of the month is solopreneur.

And actually there’s a Black Friday special bonus idea too: pracademic.

Both are ridiculously pretentious words – but they do describe me, and oddly make me feel slightly different about what I do.

Solopreneur is the new word for freelancer. It adds a dimension to freelancer, suggesting you’re running a business, not just filling in with contract work. This story from Forbes last year proposes that this is actually the era of the solopreneur.

And pracademic means half practitioner, half academic – which is me (to be precise, 60% practitioner, 40% academic). A much older word, it’s been around for 30 years. But maybe, in order to close the gap between these two worlds, this should be the era of the pracademic too.
